Increasing engagement and uptake of STEM related subjects. Our aim was to increase the interest and uptake of STEM and STEM related subjects by girls.

Milestones

2014 milestones

Introduction of iSTEM elective in Year 9.
2015 milestones

An increase in female students in uptake of STEM related subjects.
2016 milestones
  • 16 teams of girls from Year 6, 8 and 9 participated in the Seed 3D printing competition.
  • Our students were successful in all categories.
  • Number of girls participating in STEM related subjects is continuing to increase.
2017 milestones
  • Four teams participated in “The Tech Girls are Supergirls 'Build an App'” competition (Year 7-9).
  • Year 8/9 Girls participated in the Cuberider new Year 8 STEM elective 'Crazy Contraptions'.
  • The number of girls participating in STEM related subjects is continuing to increase at HSC and in junior school.

Positive impacts and emotions

  • An increase in female students taking higher levels of maths and engineering studies.
  • An increase in the number of female students interested in engineering and coding in junior  classes.
  • Excitment.

Main challenge and solution

Up skilling staff to be able to lead initiatives in new fields.
