If you were given the job of designing a chicken coop for our school, what would it look like and what elements would you need to consider?
Chicken run
Our STEM project, Chicken run, involved the design and construction of Holmwood Public School?s chicken coop. Initially a Stage 3 project, Chicken run has been extended to facilitate STEM learning across all stages within the school. Chicken run links with our current school focus on sustainability and is a wonderful addition to our rural playground setting. This STEM project has opened our eyes to the incredible benefits of project-based learning in terms of student engagement, critical thinking and authentic real-world problem solving and learning. Extending the learning across the school has given each student and teacher ownership over the project and the school is buzzing with the success of the project.
