This is the transcript for Ben Law asks students about their favourite author #ReadingHour.
G’day, I’m Benjamin Law and very soon I’ll be talking to young people about their favourite books. And they’re going to be asking me some pretty intimidating and hard hitting questions.
What is your favourite novel?
Okay, this is a very controversial choice. It’s Lolita by Vladimir, how do you say his last name?
Nabokov? He’s Russian right.
It’s okay we don’t need to get it right.
My favourite book is The Book Thief by Markus Zusack.
My favourite novel is The Master and Margarita by Mickhail Bulgakov.
Okay so this is a high-brow classic! This is very impressive.
So I’ve chosen The Fault in our Stars by John Green. And I think I just really like the book because it has this believable story.
Well it’s funny, you know you’ve got everything. Dark Humour. Just someone having fun with all these people in Moscow. There’s nothing not to like about it.
That sounds like a super sad story. And teenagers don’t need that kind of sadness in their life. What would you say to them?
Come on, we all need sadness in our lives. If we’re always happy then what does happiness mean then?
And also you’ve got to understand sadness to honour the happiness right.
End of transcript.
